Solar batteries
Solar batteries are the component that determines the actual autonomy of any photovoltaic system: they store the energy generated by the panels so it can be used when there is no sun — at night, on cloudy days or during power cuts. Choosing the right battery for your solar panels is just as important as choosing the panels themselves.
Which battery to choose for solar panels
We work with the leading battery technologies for solar installations, and we help you choose the right one based on your actual usage:
LiFePO4 lithium batteries: today's standard for any new installation. Between 3,000 and 5,000 life cycles, usable discharge of 80-100% and zero maintenance. Available in 12V for camping and boating, 24V y 48V for homes and domestic systems. Brand names: Victron Energy, Pylontech y Pytes — all of which are compatible with Victron’s DVCC protocol for optimal integration with MultiPlus and Cerbo GX. If you’re unsure which of the two leading 48V models to choose, read our Comparison: Pytes V5 vs Pylontech US5000.
AGM batteries: Sealed, maintenance-free lead-acid. The most economical entry-level option for low-power installations or sporadic use. Lifetime of 500-800 cycles at 50% discharge.
Gel batteries: higher temperature tolerance and lower self-discharge than AGM. Particularly suitable for hot climates and installations with long periods of non-use.
Carbon batteries and OPzS stationary units: for deep daily cycling on a tight budget or high-capacity batteries in off-grid installations away from the main residence.
