Isolated Solar Kit

An off-grid solar kit combines, in a single order, all the equipment required for an off-grid installation: an inverter-charger, batteries, a charge controller and accessories, all pre-configured to work together. This is the best way to avoid the most costly mistake in an off-grid installation, which is buying components piecemeal that are not compatible with one another.

What does an off-grid solar kit include?

Our kits are mounted on inverter-charger Victron 48 V MultiPlus-II Available in 3,000 and 5,000 VA versions, with lithium battery banks of 5.12 or 10.24 kWh. They include the electronics and storage; the panels and structure are selected separately depending on the available roof space.

The advantage of starting with a kit isn’t the price: it’s that the inverter, the battery and the communication between them have been tested and approved. In an off-grid installation, a compatibility issue leaves you without power – not just without electricity generation.

How much power do I need for a detached house?

The sizing is based on two figures that are not the same: the daily consumption in kWh, which determines the battery capacity and the power output of the solar panels, and the maximum simultaneous power, as determined by the investor.

A MultiPlus-II 48/3000 delivers 2,400 W continuously; the 48/5000 delivers 4,000 W. If you have a well pump, an oven or an air-conditioning unit, the peak start-up current exceeds the daily average.

And as for battery life: with 5.12 kWh of actual usable capacity and a daily consumption of 5 kWh, you won’t have a full day’s reserve, taking into account the depth of discharge. For permanent housing in winter, it’s best to double that figure.

Can I upgrade the kit at a later date?

Yes, and that’s one of the reasons for riding on the Victron: you can add battery modules to the bank and to add investors in parallel to increase power, provided that the 48 V architecture is adhered to from the outset.

What you mustn’t do is mix new and heavily used battery modules in the same bank. If you plan to expand, do so within the first year.
