Power optimisers operate at the point of maximum power on a module-by-module basis, rather than for the entire string. They are mounted behind each module and communicate with the inverter.

When is it worth using optimisers?

When there is partial shade or modules facing different directions in the same string. Without an optimiser, the module in the poorest condition limits the current of the entire string; with an optimiser, each module delivers its own current.

On a clear roof, facing in a single direction and with no chimneys or trees, the optimiser does not contribute to production: it adds to the cost, requires electronics on the roof and introduces another potential point of failure. It is not a fitted accessory as standard.

Can I mix optimisers from different brands?

No. The optimisers Huawei They only work with Huawei inverters, and TIGO inverters require their own communication gateway. The architecture is proprietary to the manufacturer.
