The 24 V lithium batteries (LiFePO4, 25.6 V nominal) are the ideal choice for large motorhomes, boats, commercial vehicles and small off-grid installations ranging from 1.5 to 3 kW. With the same capacity in Ah as a 12 V battery, they store twice as much energy and, compared to lead-acid batteries, offer a useful depth of discharge of over 90 %, 3,000–6,000 cycles, half the weight and maintenance-free fast charging.

Available models

Victron Lithium Smart 25.6 V 100 Ah and 200 Ah: LiFePO4 cells with internal balancing, Bluetooth for monitoring the status of each cell, and connection to the Victron BMS system (smallBMS, Lynx Smart BMS). Up to 5 can be connected in parallel; when connected in series, they can form 48 V banks.
Victron Lithium Battery Smart NG 25.6 V: a new generation with more cycles and improved communication.
24 V lithium batteries with integrated BMS from other manufacturers for simple installations with compatible inverters.
Alternative: two sets of 12 V lithium battery in series, which is possible with most models provided they have the same state of charge and the manufacturer permits it.

What to bear in mind

  • BMS required: In the Victron Lithium Smart, the BMS is external and is a warranty requirement; it controls the charging and discharging of all connected equipment. For batteries with an internal BMS, check the maximum charge and discharge current (100–200 A) against the inverter’s power rating.
  • Temperature: They should not be charged at temperatures below 0–5 °C; in motorhomes and boats during winter, it is advisable to use a battery with a heater or one with a temperature-cut-off function in the BMS.
  • Chargers and regulators: They must have a lithium profile (charge voltage 28.4 V, float voltage 27.0 V); the entire Victron, SmartSolar, Blue Smart and MultiPlus ranges include this.
  • Monitoring: A SmartShunt or BMV-712 indicates the actual state of charge; a voltmeter is not suitable for lithium batteries due to their flat voltage curve.

Quick sizing

Daily consumption in Wh ÷ 24 V ÷ 0.9 = Ah required per day of range. A fridge, lights, pump and electronics on a weekend boat use around 1.5–2 kWh/day: a Lithium Smart 25.6/200 Ah (5.1 kWh) battery provides 2–3 days’ autonomy. Calculate this precisely in the battery calculator or the solar panel calculator.
