Details of the 16 kVA 230/230V+N single-phase neutral-generating transformer with IP23 enclosure – two-phase networks
16 kVA neutral-generating transformer – FVC-TRAN16000
In many homes and industrial premises in Spain, the service connection is still a biphasic network: there are two phases, and between them there is 230 V, but there is no neutral nor a conductor earthed. Grid-connected photovoltaic inverters, hybrid systems and inverter/chargers require a phase and a neutral, and many also check that the neutral is earthed. When connected directly to a two-phase grid, they will display an insulation, neutral or earth fault error and will not start up.
This isolation transformer with neutral generator It solves the problem: it takes the 230 V between phases from the two-phase mains supply and outputs 230 V at its secondary terminal, with a neutral (N) terminal that is connected to the installation’s earth. The inverter thus sees a conventional single-phase phase-neutral mains supply, with the neutral referenced to earth.
When you need it
- Self-consumption installations in homes with a two-phase electricity supply (common in old town centres and rural areas).
- Hybrid inverters and inverter/chargers that require a neutral point earthed.
- When you want galvanic isolation between the mains supply and the installation.
How to choose the power rating
Choose a transformer with a power rating equal to or greater than the maximum AC power that will pass through it: the inverter’s rated power and, in the case of hybrid systems or inverter/chargers, also the power drawn from the mains to charge batteries and power loads. This 16 kVA model can handle around 69.6 A continuous current at 230 V. If you are unsure between two sizes, choose the larger one.

Installation
- Mains: the two phases of the two-phase circuit (230 V between them), protected by its circuit breaker.
- Secondary: phase and neutral to the inverter; the secondary N terminal is connected to the installation earth to establish the neutral reference.
- The electrostatic screen must always be earthed.
- IP23 unit: install indoors, in a dry, well-ventilated place, leaving space around it to allow for natural cooling.
- Installation must be carried out by an authorised installer in accordance with the REBT.
