Pylontech US2000C Battery Features

Thanks to its modular format, the Pylontech US2000C provides a easy scalability compared to other lithium batteries on the market. Pylontech batteries of different models can be connected, a feature not offered by all brands of lithium batteries.

The 2.4kwh Pylontech US2000C 48v lithium battery can be connected in parallel up to a maximum of 80 units. A maximum of 16 Pylontech battery modules can be connected in parallel, if you want to connect more, a Pylontech Hub port is required. With the Hub up to 80 Pylontech US2000C battery modules can be connected; up to 5 groups of 16 lithium battery modules each can be connected.

The US2000C incorporates multiple communications protocols that allow the charging parameters of this lithium battery to be shared and to function properly.

This pylontech US2000 battery is maintenance free. It is a sealed module and is intended for indoor installation. Avoid installing this 48v 2000w lithium battery in places where the temperature and humidity are very extreme.

The US2000C Pylontech has a built-in internal BMS, which distributes the power between the cells and prevents them from overcharging or over-discharging.

Installation and assembly of Pylontech US2000C battery

It is mandatory that whenever two or more US2000 Pylontech modules are installed in a rack or on brackets, to ensure the stability of the batteries and their proper ventilation.

Before installation, the mains must be disconnected and the battery must be checked to ensure that it is in the off mode. The polarity must be taken into account and the positive and negative cables must not be confused.

Pylontech batteries can only be connected in parallel, they do not allow series connection because the integrated BMS is for the battery voltage, in the case of the Pylontech US2000C battery it is 48V. The US2000C lithium battery must be grounded and the resistance must be less than 0.1Ω.

The following picture shows the front connections of the US2000C Pylontech:

Power terminals

The battery has two pairs of negative and positive terminals, one for connecting the battery or the lithium battery bank to the installation and the other for connecting the Pylontech modules to each other.

Two 18 cm power cables, an 18 cm RJ45 communication cable and a 1 m long 6AWG earth cable are included with the battery. The power cables have self-locking connectors, it is necessary to hold down this locking button while removing the power plug. The picture below shows the cables that the US2000C Pylontech battery is fitted with.

Issues to consider before installing the US2000C

  • The floor on which the rack is to be placed must be flat and level.
  • Temperature and humidity must be kept constant.
  • The ambient temperature should be 0°C - 50°C.
  • The installation site should be as dust and dirt free as possible.
  • It must not be in direct sunlight.
  • Pylontech lithium batteries must be more than 50 cm away from the air outlet of the inverter.
  • If the US2000C battery detects that the temperature is not in the proper range it will shut down to prevent damage.
  • There are no ventilation requirements but it is recommended not to install in a confined area.

Pylontech US2000C 4.8kWh battery mount

Can be mounted vertically or horizontally. Cannot be installed sideways or with the front connections facing down. Modules cannot be stacked on top of each other, they must be placed with brackets (maximum 4 modules) or in a rack. The following pictures show the installation of the US2000C with brackets.

Switching on the batteries

Check all cables connecting the battery modules and the cables to the inverter. The disconnecting device between the battery and the inverter must be switched on.

  • Switch on all battery modules.
  • The one with the empty link port 0 is the main lithium battery, the other modules are slaves.
  • By pressing the red SW button on the main battery, the lights of the other modules will turn on one by one.

Switching off the batteries

  • Turn off the external power supply.
  • Press the red SW switch on the main battery and the slave batteries will be switched off.
  • Turn off the power switch.
  • Switches off the disconnection device between the battery system and the inverter.

Connection Pylontech US2000C 48 V Lithium Battery to Pylontech LV-HUB Hub Port

With the latest upgrade to the Pylontech C-model, the manufacturer allows up to 16 units to be connected in parallel in a single battery pack without the need for any additional accessories. If more Pylontech lithium battery modules are to be installed, a Pylontech LV-HUB Hub is required. If the connection to the inverter is via RS485, there is no need to use a Hub port, as the master batteries of each group will communicate with each other.

A maximum of 80 units of Pylontech US2000C 48V Lithium Battery 2.4kWh can be connected either by one type of connection or the other.

Compatibility of the US2000C with Victron

The combination of Victron + Pylontech can be used for the following systems:

  • Off-grid (DVCC)
  • Network backup (DVCC or ESS)
  • Energy Storage Systems (ESS) - Self-consumption

It is mandatory to install a GX device: The BMS included in the US2000C battery communicates with this device. The minimum recommended firmware version for the GX device is v2.42.

All the Multi, Multiplus, MultiGrid and Quattro are supported. All VE.Bus inverters and inverter/chargers are compatible, provided that you use the appropriate model for the nominal voltage of the battery. They must be connected to the GX device via the VE.Bus connection port.

All the MPPT VE. Direct BlueSolar and SmartSolar are compatible. They must be connected to the GX device. If you want to use a VE.Can MPPT (2019 and later) the GX device must have more than one VE.Can port, as this is the port used for the connection to the battery.

Connections

  • To connect the US2000C battery to the inverter you need the Victron VE.Can to CAN-bus cable for type A BMS.
  • Several battery modules can be connected to form a single large battery by connecting the RJ45 cable supplied by Pylontech via the battery link ports.
    • The lithium batteries are automatically detected and linked together, no DIP switches on the battery module need to be set.
      • The DIP switches must be set to 000 for the GX device to detect lithium batteries.
    • The LiFePO4 battery with the empty link port 0 is the master or main battery.
  • Connect the communication cable with the side labelled BMS Battery to the Pylontech CAN port of the main battery.
  • If the GX device only has VE.Can ports, the VE.Can port profile must be changed to CAN-bus BMS (500 kbit/s) for the Pylontech battery.
    • Connect the Victron VE.Can labelled side to the GX device.
    • Connect a VE.Can terminator to the other VE.Can connector of the GX device.
    • If not connected correctly, the battery will not appear on the GX device and will automatically shut down.

GX device configuration

With a version v2.80 or later on the GX device, the DVCC settings will be set and applied automatically. In case it has to be done manually, these are the appropriate values:

  • West Virginia Convention and Convention Center: EN.
  • Voltage sharing detection: OFF.
  • Shared temperature sense: OFF.
