Inverters Chargers 24V to 220V

The 24 V inverter/charger It is the ideal intermediate voltage for large motorhomes, boats from 8 to 15 metres, small country houses and off-grid systems from 1.5 to 3 kW: it halves the current and cable cross-section compared to 12 V, whilst remaining compatible with 24 V fridges, lights and pumps commonly found in boating and commercial vehicles. It converts the battery’s 24 V to 230 V, charges from the mains or a generator, and switches over automatically when the AC supply is lost.

24 V Victron models

• MultiPlus 24/500, 24/800, 24/1200 and 24/1600: Compact models, for motorhomes, boating and small holiday cottages. Charger rated from 10 to 40 A.
• MultiPlus 24/2000 and MultiPlus-II 24/3000: Power supply for small homes or boats with air conditioning; a 50–70 A charger and PowerAssist for marina or campsite sockets limited to 6–10 A.
• MultiPlus 24/5000, Quattro 24/5000 and 24/8000: large 24 V off-grid systems with a generator; the Quattro adds a second AC input.
• EasySolar 24/1600 and 24/3000: Charge controller, MPPT and distribution all in a single unit.

24 V versus 12 V and 48 V

Up to 1,500 W, the 12 V system remains convenient; between 1,500 and 3,000 W, 24 V avoids the need for 70–95 mm² cables and allows for 25.6 V lithium battery banks (Victron Lithium Smart 200 Ah) or two 12 V batteries in series; above 3,000 W, it is advisable to switch to 48 V. If your boat or vehicle already has 24 V systems, the choice is obvious. For AGM/GEL lead-acid batteries, 24 V also works well with two monoblock batteries in series.

What else do you need?

DC fuse as per the manual (e.g. 200 A in a MultiPlus 24/3000), battery cable of 35–70 mm² in short lengths (cross-section calculator), regulator SmartSolar MPPT for the panels, a SmartShunt to check the charge status and, for the Victron lithium battery, the corresponding BMS.
