GoodWe It is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of solar inverters, listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange and with several million units installed. Its offering is a closed ecosystem that is inexpensive to implement: a hybrid inverter, battery, meter and monitoring system, all from the same brand, with all components communicating directly with one another without the need for third-party gateways.

What is the difference between GoodWe ESA and ETA?
The The ESA Hybrid series is single-phase and covers a range from 3 to 10 kW (3, 3.6, 5, 6, 8 and 10 kW). This range is designed for detached houses with a single-phase supply, which accounts for the majority of residential properties in Spain.
The The ETA Hybrid series is three-phase and ranges from 5 to 29.9 kW (5, 6, 8, 12, 15, 20, 25 and 29.9 kW). It covers everything from a holiday home with a three-phase supply to an industrial unit or a small commercial premises. Above 15 kW, you enter the realm of commercial installations, with the connection requirements that this entails.
The price difference between the ranges is significant for the same power output: a 5 kW ESA costs around €736, whilst a 5 kW ETA costs €1,224. Buying power is not the same as buying three-phase power.
Which batteries are compatible with a GoodWe inverter?
We have our own batteries in our catalogue BAT5 y BAT8, plus the mounting accessories from the series Lynx D (base and wall bracket) and the ESA expansion kit to add capacity to an existing system.
The key point when selecting a battery: you shouldn’t choose a battery based on its capacity, but on its discharge power. A 5 kWh battery that only delivers 2.5 kW won’t be able to power a ceramic hob and an oven at the same time, no matter how much energy it has stored. Always check the maximum continuous discharge current, not just the kWh rating.
Do I need a smart meter to install a GoodWe?
Yes, and it’s not optional. Without a meter on the main switchboard, the inverter doesn’t know how much energy the property is using and cannot achieve zero net consumption or manage the battery properly.
- GMK110 and GMK110D: Single-phase meters, for installations with the ESA Hybrid.
- GM330 and GMK330: Three-phase meters, for installations with ETA Hybrid.
- Ezlink 3000: the communication module that links the inverter, meter and battery, and uploads the data to the portal.
This is the most common installation error with this brand: fitting the inverter, failing to install the meter, and then realising that the system is feeding all the surplus electricity back into the grid.
How is a GoodWe installation monitored?
Via the portal SEMS, free of charge, with an app for iOS and Android and no time limit on historical data. It allows you to view generation, consumption, battery charge status and alarms, and to grant the installer access for remote diagnostics.
If you manage several sites, the portal’s multi-site access feature is what makes remote maintenance possible without having to travel to each site where a fault has occurred.
GoodWe or Fronius?
This is the comparison we’re asked for most often. GoodWe It offers better value for money and greater integration: for the price of a top-of-the-range inverter, you get an inverter, a battery and a meter from the same brand, all of which work straight away.
Fronius It excels in European manufacturing, local technical support and flexibility: it supports AC coupling and integrates with equipment Victron and its electronics are designed to withstand the high temperatures on ship decks.
Our view: if budget is the main consideration and the installation is standard, GoodWe more than meets the mark. If the installation is complex — requiring full backup, a generator, future expansion, or integration with Victron — or if you want support for twenty years, go for Fronius.
