Maxge manufactures modular electrical protection equipment: circuit breakers, residual current devices, surge protectors and isolators. It offers a highly competitive value-for-money option for the switchboard of a photovoltaic installation, on both the DC and AC sides.
What you’ll find at Maxge
Circuit breakers: in curves B and C, single-phase and three-phase, including the DC versions required for the switchboard side.
Residual current circuit breakers: Type A and Type B. Type B is the type required by the regulations when there are electric vehicle chargers or inverters that may feed residual direct current into the grid.
Surge protection: Type 1+2 and Type 2 surge arresters for direct and alternating current.
Why protection matters in photovoltaics
A rooftop installation acts as an unintended lightning arrester: a storm several kilometres away can induce a power surge that renders the inverter inoperable. The surge arrester costs a fraction of the price of the equipment it protects.
There is also a particular issue with the DC side: a circuit breaker designed for AC does not correctly interrupt a DC arc, as there is no natural zero-crossing. Specific DC switchgear must be used.
How to assemble the frame
A typical self-consumption system includes DC protection between the panels and the inverter, AC protection at the output, a suitable residual current device (RCD) and surge arresters on both sides. In an off-grid installation, protection for the battery bank is added, with its fuse relevant.
