Chint Electric is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of low-voltage electrical switchgear. In photovoltaic installations, its circuit breakers, residual current devices and isolators are a very popular choice due to their availability and price, and they are certified to European standards.
Which Chint products do we stock?
Circuit breakers: the NB series with a C-curve in single-phase and three-phase, plus specific versions for direct current on the panel side.
Differentials: Type A and Type AC, at the standard sensitivities of 30 and 300 mA.
Disconnectors and fuse bases for the continuous section.
Be careful with the DC circuit breaker
This is the most common fault in installations carried out without due care. A circuit breaker designed for alternating current uses the zero-crossing point of the waveform to extinguish the electric arc. In direct current, there is no zero-crossing point, so the arc can persist and the device may fail to clear the fault.
On both the panel side and the battery side, you must always use switchgear approved for DC, with the correct operating voltage. It is an inexpensive component where it is not worth skimping.
How to work out the correct size
The circuit breaker should be selected to be rated above the maximum operating current and below the capacity of the cable it protects. For the string of panels, it should be rated above the short-circuit current, taking into account the safety factor; for the inverter output, it should be rated above its rated current.
