Sunfer Structures

Sunfer Energy is a Spanish manufacturer of mounting structures for solar panels, producing products in aluminium and stainless steel. Its mounting systems are suitable for all types of roof and are amongst the most widely used by installers in Spain due to their price and availability.

What sort of structure do I need?
Flat roof: triangulated structures with a fixed angle of inclination —usually 15, 20 or 30 degrees— which are either ballasted or anchored. On concrete roofs, ballasting avoids the need to pierce the waterproofing.
Tiled roof: Specific hooks depending on the type of roof tile — Arabic, flat or mixed — onto which the profile is fitted. Choosing the correct hook is what prevents leaks.
Sheet metal cover: profiles and self-tapping fasteners or clamps for corrugated sheet metal and sandwich panels, depending on the roof profile.
Soil: structures for on-site installation, either driven into the ground or set in concrete footings.

What is often overlooked
The structure must be designed to withstand the wind and snow loads typical of your area, which in Spain vary greatly between the Mediterranean coast and the northern interior. An undersized structure does not fail in the first year: it fails on the day of the storm.
Also check that the materials are compatible: mixing aluminium with unsuitable steel fasteners will cause galvanic corrosion within a few years, particularly near the sea.
