Victron Cyrix-Li-Charge 12/24V-120A battery combiner - CYR010120430: prevents undervoltage, overvoltage and overtemperature of the cells.

In the field of LiFePO4 batteries, a fundamental safeguard is cell balancing, an essential practice for maintaining battery performance. In the case of Victron LiFePO4 batteries, cell balancing is fully incorporated, thus laying the foundation for safe and prolonged operation.

However, protection does not stop there. A second line of defence is erected, consisting of additional safeguard measures:

  • Automatic interruption of loads in situations of imminent cell undervoltage.
  • Load current disconnection or regulation in response to critical conditions, such as impending overvoltage, high temperatures (above 50°C) or adverse temperatures (below 0°C) affecting the switchgear.

Within this scenario, the VE.Bus BMS (Battery Management System) stands as the core of this second line of safeguard. However, it is important to note that not all loads or charging devices can be directly controlled by the VE.Bus BMS.

To address this need, Cyrix switches come into play, a versatile solution that can be controlled by the VE.Bus BMS for effective disconnection of loads or chargers that would otherwise not be directly managed.

In conclusion, the combination of cell balancing and the robust performance of the VE.Bus BMS constitutes a comprehensive protection system for Victron LiFePO4 batteries. This strategy ensures not only efficient operation, but also long battery life, thus supporting the reliability and durability of these energy storage systems.

Victron Cyrix-Li-Charge 12/24V-120A Battery Combiner - CYR010120430

The Cyrix-Li-Charge will connect a battery charger after 3 seconds:
- If the disconnection output of the VE.Bus BMS charger is high.
- If 13.0 V (26.0 V or 52.0 V resp.) or more reaches its connection terminal of the battery charger.
- And if 2 V or more arrive at its battery terminal (the Cyrix will remain open if it is not connected to the battery).
The Cyrix-Li-Charge will disconnect immediately when its control input becomes floating, indicating an overvoltage or overtemperature of the cells.

In general, the overvoltage alarm on the cells will reset shortly after charging stops. The Cyrix will then reconnect the charger after a delay of 3 seconds. When the Cyrix-Li-Charge is activated (charger connected to the battery) it will deactivate after 1 hour to check if the charger is still enabled. If after the Cyrix has been deactivated, the output of the battery charger is immediately increased to 13.0 V or more, the Cyrix will reactivate with a delay of 3 seconds.

Note: In case of zero discharge current, or low discharge current, the Cyrix will not be deactivated shortly after the charger has been switched off and/or disconnected, because the battery voltage will remain above 13.5V.
