Booster assembly

For safe and efficient installation, it is recommended:

• Mount the converter vertically on a non-flammable surface.
• Respect a distance of 10 cm above and below the device to ensure adequate ventilation.
• Place it close to the battery, but not directly on top of it.

Connection and Wiring

• Use flexible, multi-stranded copper cables, which are recommended by the manufacturer.
• Check the polarity before connecting the battery, as a reverse connection may damage the equipment and is not covered by the warranty.
• Ensure that the cables are correctly fixed so that there are no false contacts and overheating.

Operating Modes

The Victron Orion-Tr Smart has two main modes:

• Power Supply Mode: Maintains a stable output regardless of input variations.
• Charger Mode: Implements a three-stage charging process (bulk, absorption and float), thus optimising battery performance.

Remote On/Off Control

The converter can be remotely switched on or off by means of:

• An external switch between pins L and H.
• Connection to a battery management system (BMS).

Engine Shutdown Detection

The Orion-Tr Smart includes an engine shutdown detection system so that the service battery is not discharged when the engine is off. Its operation is based on:

• Alternator voltage monitoring: Detects whether the engine is running by measuring voltage fluctuation.
• Configured timeout: The start of charging can be delayed after starting the engine.
• Switch-off hysteresis: Avoids constant switching on and off when the voltage fluctuates.

Troubleshooting

Some common problems that may arise include:

1. Charger Does Not Switch On

• Check fuses and battery connections.
• The input voltage must be within the recommended range.
• Verify that the remote On/Off connection works.
• If the device has been connected with the polarity reversed, it may have been damaged.

2. Battery Does Not Charge

• Check that the Charger mode is activated in VictronConnect.
• Verify absorption and float voltage settings.
• Check that the load is not being blocked:
  • By detection of engine shutdown.
  • The BMS may be blocking it.

3. Problems with Bluetooth Connection

• Make sure that Bluetooth is activated on the converter.
• If the blue LED flashes every 0.8 seconds, another device has already been paired.
• Reset the converter by disconnecting it from the battery for a few seconds.
