SMA Solar Technology is the longest established German PV inverter manufacturer in Europe. Founded in 1981 in Kassel, Germany, SMA is the company that introduced the modern solar inverter to the European market and has installed more than 100 GW in over 190 countries. Its reputation for quality and durability makes it the benchmark for engineers and planners for medium and large-scale installations where 25-year reliability is more important than the initial price.
The SMA range is structured in three main lines: Sunny Boy (single-phase 1.5-10 kW) for high-quality residential on-grid installations; Sunny Tripower (three-phase 3-110 kW) for commercial and industrial installations with integrated string optimisation; and Sunny Island for off-grid applications and high power hybrid systems.
SMA is also known for its monitoring system. SMA Energy (formerly Sunny Portal), its communication platform SMA Data Manager and its compatibility with storage systems from different manufacturers via standard Modbus/SunSpec interfaces.
