Victron Orion DC/DC Booster DC/DC Converters

Current Converters

Information about Current Converters

The Current Converters DC/DC, also called BoosterThe DC power supplies are devices that transform the incoming DC current of a given voltage into a DC output current of a different voltage. The Victron Booster are used to adapt the current used to the current demand required for a particular appliance. For example, if the DC current available to us is 24V and we need a DC current of 12V for a particular appliance, we will use a DC 24V/12V converter.

The Current Converters are not a current inverter. It transforms a direct current into an alternating current. This device changes the voltage of the current without altering the nature of the current. When choosing these devices, the current at which they must work must be taken into account.

Victron Booster Types

There are different types of current converters (also called current converters o booster) according to the changes made in the current. We have the step-down current converter, which gives an output voltage lower than the input voltage; the step-up current converter, whose output voltage is higher than the input voltage; and the step-up step-down current converter, which is capable of performing both functions.

The type of Current Converters that are used in the FVComponents.com are offered are step-down and step-up converters. They are simple converters with high efficiency (superior to the 95%) and at a low price, and are a complement to your solar installation. The advantages of these devices are that they can generate certain voltages where they are needed, and they allow power management, control of input voltages and provide greater safety.

Victron Booster

Both the victron 30a isolated booster... All Victron booster models, called Orion, are short-circuit proof and can be connected in parallel to increase the output current, an unlimited number of units can be connected in parallel.

These Orion Victron Converters have IP43 protection if the victron booster is installed with the screw terminals facing downwards. Victron orion tr converters have screw terminals, so no special tools are required for installation.

The Victron Orion 12V, such as the Victron Orion-tr smart 12/12-30a, and the Victron Orion 24V have a built-in input fuse which is not replaceable. The 48V boosters need an external fuse.

The "normal" Victron Orion, i.e. not smart, like the victron orion 12/12-30 are only converters or boosters. The victron orion tr smart models also have a battery charging function.

All victron orion converters have a built-in remote on/off terminal. This eliminates the need for a high-power switch in the input wiring. This remote switch of the victron booster can be operated by means of a low power switch or the engine start/stop switch.

Orion insulated vs Orion non-insulated

A distinction must also be made between the isolated booster y non-isolated booster. Isolated Victron boosters are intended for vehicles with Euro 5 and Euro 6 engines, non-isolated boosters are for older vehicles.

Victron Orion Smart

The Orion smart boosterThe victron energy booster orion tr smart 12/12-18, for example, is a charger converter.

The victron orion-tr smart 12/12-30a charger is a professional DC to DC charger, 3-stage adaptive and with integrated Bluetooth.

They are used in battery systems in vehicles or boats where the alternator, which has to be intelligent, and the starter battery are used to charge the service battery. The victron orion tr smart can be monitored and programmed via Bluetooth and can also be remotely controlled via a remote on/off switch, they also have an engine running detection mechanism.

The Orion-Tr Smart charger, victron orion-tr smart 12/12-30a, can be used in 12 or 24V systems and is suitable for both lead-acid and lithium batteries. Victron boosters up to 400W are available and an unlimited number of units can be connected in parallel to increase the power output of your 50A victron booster.

The victron orion tr smart is designed to operate in high temperatures up to 55°C, and will have full rated power output up to 40°C.

Victron Booster Installation

The first thing to do when installing a victron booster is to choose a dry, cool and well ventilated place. The second thing is to connect the input power cables, remember to add an external fuse to the victron booster installation if the chosen victron booster is 48V.

Replace the jumper on the green connector of the Victron Orion 12/12-30 Remote On/Off Switch, or the booster of choice, or remove the jumper and connect the right hand terminal of the green connector to the positive of the battery with a switch.

Adjusts the output voltage depending on the converter, using the potentiometer. The default output values are 12.2 V, 24.2 V or 48.2 V, also depending on the model. In the case of the victron orion xs 50a, the output is 12V. Turn it counterclockwise to reduce the voltage and clockwise to increase the voltage. The voltage of the isolated victron 30a booster, or any other converter, can be adjusted with the potentiometer approximately between -15 % and +25 % of the default value.

The output is protected against overload and short circuits, boosters, such as the victron orion xscan be connected in parallel. First adjust the output voltage and then connect the boosters in parallel or to a battery.

Just connect the charge and your Victron 30 booster is ready for use.
