Pylontech 48V US3000C battery features

The modular format of this lithium battery provides superior scalability compared to other lithium batteries. It is compatible with Pylontech batteries of different models, including older models.

The 4.8kWh Pylontech US3000C 48V lithium battery can be connected in parallel up to a maximum of 80 units. A maximum of 16 US3000C battery modules can be connected in parallel, if more Pylontech batteries are to be connected, a Pylontech Hub port is required. With the Hub you can connect up to 80 4.8kWh Pylontech US3000C 48V lithium battery modules; up to 5 groups of 16 48V lithium battery modules each can be connected.

The US3000C incorporates multiple communications protocols that allow battery parameters to be shared and function properly.

Pylontech battery modules are maintenance free. They are sealed and made for indoor installation. Pylontech US3000C batteries should not be installed in places where temperature and humidity are very extreme.

The Pylontech US3000C battery has a built-in internal BMS, which distributes the power between the cells and prevents them from overcharging or over-discharging.

Advantages of the Pylontech battery

  • LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) cell developed by Pytlontech to ensure maximum safety.

Installation and assembly of the Pylontech US3000C battery

Whenever two or more US3000C modules are installed in a rack or on brackets, to ensure the stability of the batteries and their proper ventilation.

The mains must be disconnected before installation and check that the Pylontech lithium battery is in off mode. Be careful with polarity, do not confuse the positive and negative wires.

Pylontech LiFePO4 batteries can only be connected in parallel, it is not allowed to connect Pylontech batteries in series because the integrated BMS is specific for the battery voltage, in the case of the Pylontech US3000C battery it is 48V.

The US3000C lithium battery must be grounded and the resistance must be less than 0.1Ω.

The following picture shows the front connections of the US3000C Pylontech:

Power terminals

The battery has two pairs of terminals with the same function, one for connecting the battery or the lithium battery bank to the installation and the other for connecting the Pylontech modules to each other.

The battery is fitted with two 18 cm power cables, a 1 m long 6AWG earth cable and a 21 cm long RJ45 communication cable. The power cables have self-locking connectors, this locking button must be held down to remove the power plug. The image below shows the cables included with the US3000C Pylontech battery.

Things to consider before installation of the US3000C

  • The floor on which the rack is to be placed must be flat and level.
  • The ambient temperature should be 0°C - 50°C.
  • Temperature and humidity must be kept constant.
  • The installation site should be as dust and dirt free as possible.
  • 48V Pylontech lithium batteries must be more than 50 cm away from the air outlet of the inverter.
  • Keep out of direct sunlight.
  • It is recommended not to install in a confined area.
  • If the US3000C battery detects that the temperature is not in the proper range it will shut down to prevent damage.

4.8kWh Pylontech US3000C battery mount

Can be mounted vertically, horizontally or sideways. Cannot be installed with the front connections facing downwards. Modules cannot be stacked on top of each other, as there would be no ventilation, they must be placed with brackets (maximum 4 modules) or in a rack. The following picture shows the installation of the US3000C with brackets.

Switching on the batteries

Check all cables connecting the battery modules and the cables to the inverter. The disconnection device between the battery and the inverter must be switched on.

  • Switch on all battery modules.
  • The one with the empty link port 0 is the main lithium battery, the other modules are slaves.
  • Press the red SW button on the main battery and the lights of the other modules will light up one by one.

Switching off the batteries

  • Turn off the external power supply.
  • Press the red SW switch on the main battery and all other connected modules will be switched off.
  • Turn off the power switch.
  • Switches off the disconnection device between the battery system and the inverter.

Victron US3000C compatibility

The combination of Victron + Pylontech can be used for the following systems:

  • Off-grid (DVCC)
  • Network backup (DVCC or ESS)
  • Energy Storage Systems (ESS) - Self-consumption

It is mandatory to install a GX device: This device communicates with the BMS included in the US3000C battery. The minimum recommended firmware version for the GX device is v2.42.

All investors Multi, Multiplus, MultiGrid and Quattro are supported. All inverters and inverter/chargers with VE.Bus are compatible, provided that you use the appropriate model for the nominal voltage of the battery. They must be connected to the GX device via the VE.Bus connection port.

All the MPPT VE. Direct BlueSolar and SmartSolar are compatible. They must be connected to the GX device. If you want to use a VE.Can MPPT (2019 and later) the GX device must have more than one VE.Can port, as this is the port used for connection to the Pylontech batteries.

Connections

  • To connect the 48V Pylontech batteries to the inverter you need the Victron cable from VE.Can to CAN-bus for BMS type A.
  • Several battery modules can be connected to form a single large battery by connecting the RJ45 cable supplied by Pylontech via the battery link ports.
    • When the battery modules are connected, they are automatically detected and linked to each other, no DIP switches on the battery module need to be set.
      • The DIP switches must be set to 000, or the GX device will not detect the batteries.
    • The battery with the empty link port 0 is the master or main battery.
  • The communication cable must be connected to the Pylontech CAN port of the main battery.
  • Some GX devices have multiple CAN ports. If the GX device has only VE.Can ports, the VE.Can port profile must be changed to CAN-bus BMS (500 kbit/s) for the battery.
    • Connect the Victron VE.Can labelled side to the GX device.
    • Connect a VE.Can terminator to the other VE.Can connector of the GX device.
    • If not connected correctly, the battery will not appear on the GX device and will automatically shut down.

GX device configuration

If the GX device version is v2.80 or later, the DVCC settings will be set and applied automatically. If it has to be done manually, these are the values to be configured.
