Victron Skylla-i 24-100 charger (1+1): two outputs to charge 2 battery banks

The Victron Skylla-i 24-100 (1+1) charger has 2 isolated outputs. The second output, limited to approximately 4 A, and with a slightly lower output voltage, is intended to fully charge a starter battery.

Skylla-i (3): three full-current outputs for charging 3 battery banks

Skylla-i (3) has 3 isolated outputs. All outputs can supply the full rated output current.

Robust

Aluminum epoxy powder-coated housings, with drip shield and stainless steel hardware, withstand the rigors of the harshest environments: heat, humidity and salt air. The printed circuit boards are protected with an acrylic coating for maximum corrosion resistance. Temperature sensors ensure that electrical components will always operate within specified limits, automatically reducing, if necessary, the output current under environmental conditions.

Flexible

In addition to the CAN-bus interface (NMEA 2000) a rotary switch, DIP switches and potentiometers are available to adapt the charging algorithm to a particular battery and its conditions of use.

Important features:

Synchronized parallel operation

Several chargers can be synchronized with the CAN-bus interface. To do this, simply connect the chargers with RJ45 UTP cables. Operation: Two-output and three-output chargers cannot be connected in parallel. Please refer to the manual for more information.

The right amount of charge for a lead-acid battery: variable absorption time.

When the discharge is low, the absorption phase is shortened to avoid overcharging the battery. After a deep discharge, the absorption charging time is automatically increased to ensure that the battery is fully recharged.

Preventing damage caused by overgassing: BatterySafe mode

If a combination of high charging current and high absorption voltage has been chosen to charge a battery quickly, Skylla-i will prevent damage from over-gassing by automatically limiting the rate of voltage increase once the gassing voltage has been reached.

Reduced aging and need for maintenance when the battery is not in use: storage mode

The storage mode is activated when the battery has not been discharged for 24 hours. In storage mode, the float voltage is reduced to 2.2 V/cell (26.4 V for 24 V batteries) to reduce gassing and corrosion of the positive plates. Once a week, the voltage is brought back up to the absorption level to "refresh" the
battery. This function prevents electrolyte stratification and sulfation, the main causes of battery failure.

For a longer battery life: temperature compensation

All Skylla-i chargers come with a battery temperature sensor. When connected, the charging voltage will automatically decrease as the battery temperature increases. This function is especially recommended for sealed lead-acid batteries and/or when large temperature fluctuations are expected in the battery.

Battery voltage probe

To compensate for voltage losses due to cable resistance, the Skylla-i has a voltage probe function so that the battery always receives the correct charging voltage.

Suitable for AC and DC power supply (AC-DC and DC-DC operation)

The chargers also support DC power.

Use as power supply

Thanks to its perfectly stabilized voltage output, the Skylla-i can be used as a power supply in cases where batteries or compensating capacitors are not available.

Prepared for Li-Ion (LiFePo4)

Simple on/off control can be implemented by connecting a relay or optocoupler with open collector output from a Li-Ion BMS to the remote control port of the charger. Full voltage and current control is also possible by connecting to the galvanically isolated CAN-bus port.
