The Victron Multiplus II GX Inverter 48V 5000VA 70+50A is an advanced device for our photovoltaic installation that allows us to have a hybrid self-consumption system with accumulation and with full operational guarantees.
Like the entire Victron MultiPlus range, this MultiPlus II family is an inverter with a multi-functional charger that features numerous electrical certifications from a large number of countries that qualify it for use as a grid-connected energy storage system (ESS)..
The MultiPlus II model, formerly known as MultiGrid II, also incorporates anti-islanding protection and Victron PowerControl and PowerAssist functionality.
The Victron Multiplus II GX 48V 5000VA 70+50A Solar Inverter Charger is a guarantee of reliability and stability, thanks to its advanced power stage design.
The Victron Multiplus II GX Inverter 48V 5000VA 70+50A offers up to 5000VA of output power from the inverter itself, although thanks to its PowerAssist function, it can supply more output power by adding energy from the AC input and also from the batteries so as not to overload the external grid input. It works with 48V batteries and has an internal 70A battery charger.
Thanks to its function as a UPS, it is able to offer uninterruptible power output, as the switching is very fast so that critical consumption is not affected. Like the rest of the MultiPlus family, it is highly expandable thanks to its ability to work in parallel with up to 6 units.
It is also possible to use it on a three-phase network by installing one unit for each phase, to which we can also add parallel operation within the phases themselves.
The MultiPlus-II GX integrates a MultiPlus-II inverter/charger and a GX device with a 2 x 16 character display. This integrated device includes:
- A BMS-Can interface that can be used to connect to a battery managed by a compatible CAN-bus.
- One USB port.
- One Ethernet port.
- One VE.Direct port
The MultiPlus II inverter can be operated in all common energy storage topologies. A current sensor is available as an option to limit the AC input according to our needs, as the transfer and load power of the MultiPlus II may be too high for the available current. The most common application for this type of inverter is as follows:
In this case the inverter charger can have the usual loads, powered by the conventional grid and have an energy storage system (battery) that will power the critical loads if the grid fails or is unstable. Consideration will be given to whether any limitation of the AC input to a safe value needs to be applied using the PowerControl and PowerAssist functions.
In this case, the PV inverter uses the information provided by the toroidal current sensor to optimise self-consumption by converting the energy into alternating current and using it directly for consumption. This allows us to choose whether or not to feed the surplus solar production into the electricity grid.
The batteries are recharged by the solar panels and consumption can be divided between critical consumption, which is always powered even in the event of a power cut, and normal consumption, which can also be powered by the energy produced by the panels.
In order to have maximum control of the operation of the solar installation, it is highly recommended to include the Victron ColorControl Panel, as from it we can configure, load the operating parameters and monitor the performance of the entire system. All the components will appear on the supervision screen and we will have detailed information on production, consumption, storage, etc.
Thanks to the inclusion of the Victron ColorControl Panel, we will have access to the VRM portal provided by the brand where we will have access to the monitoring and configuration of the system from any terminal with internet access. The VRM portal will even give us the option of sending us alarms depending on what we program in the operation of the system.
The MultiPlus II can work with virtually any 48V battery on the market without any problem. Its great flexibility and adaptability allows it to be configured to charge a lead-acid battery of any technology, whether sealed or open OPzS type.
Victron regularly updates its software to ensure compatibility with the vast majority of brands of lithium batteries on the market. This is a guarantee for the future.
If an external charge regulator topology is used to charge batteries or for direct self-consumption, it is advisable to use an MPPT model of the Victron brand. In this way, the ColorControl panel will show the photovoltaic production of the system in detail.
If a photovoltaic inverter is used as a solar generator, it is advisable to use a product from FroniusThe product is also compatible with other well-known brands in the industry, such as Kostal.
In the ColorControl and the VRM portal we can also monitor the production of the PV inverter without any problem. There is also compatibility with other manufacturers such as Schneider; you can consult the compatibility table on the Victron website, which is updated regularly.
