The Huawei SmartGuard-63-A-T0 is Huawei's solution to keep your PV system running even when the power goes out.

Inverters shut down when there is a power outage for a good reason: safety. A grid-connected inverter is designed to work in sync with the grid, and when it detects that the grid has disappeared, it automatically cuts production. This is done to avoid a very serious danger: If the inverter were to continue to operate during a blackout, it could send electricity back to the grid through your installation. Even if the power has gone out in your house, the cables in the street could be re-energised by your inverter, putting at risk the technicians repairing the fault or anyone who touches a line believing it to be disconnected.

When an installation continues to have electricity during a blackout, it is because there is a backup system that separates the house from the general grid and creates its own grid, supported by batteries. In this case, the inverter can continue to operate in island mode, but only because there is no longer a risk of sending energy to the public grid.

The Huawei SmartGuard-63-A-T0 Backup is the device that allows the inverter to automatically switch to backup mode when there is a power outage, so that the installation does not lose power.

It is designed to offer total backup in combination with Luna2000 batteries, with a high level of security and intelligent energy management. During a power cut, it coordinates the entire installation: panels, batteries, consumption and, if you have it, even the electric car charger.

Full back-up up to 63 A: no hassle with critical loads

One of the great advantages of this backup system is that it supports up to 63 A, which means that it can supply the entire electrical installation without the need to separate critical and non-critical circuits. However, it is designed for three-phase installations and an important detail should be borne in mind: although it can handle up to 63 A to/from the mains and also to the backup output, the sum of the current in the backup and non-backup outputs cannot exceed 63 A.

During a power outage you can continue to use your home as normal: electricity, electrical appliances, air conditioning... without having to think about what you plug in and what you don't. It is a much more comfortable and complete backup experience.

Replaces the conventional electrical panel (and makes everything more orderly).

The SmartGuard-63-A-T0 - 01076984 is designed to replace the conventional electrical panel, integrating automatic switching, electrical protection and energy management into a single system. Its interior design offers space to install the necessary protections and its finish maintains a clean and professional aesthetic, matching Huawei inverters.

Integration with EMMA and FusionSolar: intelligent control

The device incorporates a specific space to integrate Huawei's EMMA management system, so that it can communicate directly with the FusionSolar app without the need for additional equipment.

Thanks to this integration, the SmartGuard becomes the coordination centre of the installation, being able to intelligently manage photovoltaic production, batteries (ESS), electric vehicle chargers and other controllable loads in the home.

It allows up to two electric car chargers to be connected in the same installation and incorporates various energy measurement functions.

For example, you can:

• schedule electric car charging at specific times
• prioritising consumption when the sun is shining
• control heat pumps or electric water heaters
• adjusting the use of solar energy to increase self-consumption

All this translates into more efficiency, more autonomy and less dependence on the grid.

Installation and resistance

This backup system operates by natural convection (no fan), which means less noise and less maintenance. It is IP55 rated, suitable for outdoor use, and operates in a temperature range of -25°C to 50°C with derating depending on mode and temperature, making it suitable for most residential installations, although this should be taken into account in particularly hot areas.

Operating modes

The SmartGuard-63-A-T0 operates in two modes:

• Networked mode: combining grid + solar + batteries.
• Island mode: is automatically activated in the event of a power cut, supplying the installation with inverter and batteries.

Priority of supply:
Electricity grid > Island mode
