Diode bridges allow different batteries to be charged simultaneously from a single alternator, without connecting the batteries together. Even when discharged, the batteries remain isolated, so that the use of the service battery, for example, cannot discharge the starter battery.

ARGO diode bridges have a reduced voltage drop due to the use of Schottky diodes: at low current, the loss will be approximately 0.3 V, and at full output, 0.45 V. All models are equipped with a compensation diode which allows the alternator output voltage to be slightly increased to compensate for the voltage loss of the diode bridge. Alternator power supply input

Some alternators require a DC voltage on the B+ output to start charging. Obviously, DC will be present when the alternator is connected directly to the battery. However, if a diode bridge or a FET separator is inserted, any voltage/current return from the batteries to the B+ output will be avoided, and the
alternator will not activate.
The new "AC" diode jumpers have a special current limiting input that will feed the B+ output when the motor start/stop switch is closed.
