PWM controllers
PWM and MPPT controllers are the two solar charge control technologies available on the market. Knowing the difference between the two is the first step in making the right choice: MPPT can recover up to 30% more energy from the same panels, but PWM has a significantly lower input cost and in small installations with 12V panels this difference in efficiency has little practical impact.
When to choose a PWM controller? When the installation meets these three criteria: nominal 12V panels, low daily consumption (lighting, device charging, small DC consumption) and a tight budget. In any other case - 24V panels or higher, installations of more than 200W, lithium battery systems - the MPPT regulator is the right choice and its additional cost is recovered within weeks.
At FVComponentes.com we have the BlueSolar PWM range from Victron Energy, available in four versions:
BlueSolar PWM Light (5-30A): basic version without display for simple installations.
BlueSolar PWM-LCD and USB (5-30A): with LCD display and USB port for direct charging of devices.
BlueSolar PWM-Pro: programmable version with optional remote panel connector.
BlueSolar PWM DUO (20A): For simultaneous charging of two independent batteries from one panel. Widely used in camper and marine applications to manage separate starter and service batteries.
All BlueSolar PWM models are compatible with AGM, GEL and lead-acid batteries in 12V and 24V systems. Are you hesitating between the MPPT and PWM regulator for your installation? Our technical equipment recommends the most suitable one according to your panels and consumption.
