The GEL range, to which the Victron 12V/110Ah GEL Deep Cycle - BAT412101104 battery belongs, offers the best deep cycle durability and the longest service life. Due to the use of high purity materials and lead-calcium grids, GEL batteries have a very low self-discharge, allowing long periods of storage without charging. VRLA technology

VRLA stands for Valve Regulated Lead Acid, which means that the battery is hermetically sealed. There will be gas leakage at the safety valves only in the event of overcharge or component failure. VRLA batteries do not require any maintenance.

Waterproof Gel Batteries (VRLA)

In this type of battery, the electrolyte is immobilised in gel form. Gel batteries generally have a longer life and a better cycling capacity than AGM batteries.

Thanks to the use of lead-calcium grids and high purity materials, Victron VRLA batteries can be stored for a long time without recharging. The self-discharge rate is less than 2% per month at 20°C. The self-discharge rate doubles for every 10°C increase in temperature. In a cool environment, Victron VRLA batteries can be stored for a year without recharging.

Extraordinary recovery after deep discharge

Victron VRLA batteries have an outstanding capacity to recover even after deep or prolonged discharge. However, it must be emphasised that frequent deep or prolonged discharges have a very negative influence on the lifetime of lead/acid batteries, and Victron batteries are no exception.

• The rated capacities of Victron batteries are given for a discharge of 20 hours, i.e. for a discharge current of 0.05C.
• The actual capacity decreases at faster discharges with higher currents.
• Capacity reduction will be even faster with constant power devices such as inverters.
• Due to their design, gel batteries have a lower actual capacity at high current. In contrast, gel batteries have better float and cycling life.
