A circuit breaker designed for alternating current utilises the zero-crossing point of the waveform to extinguish the electric arc. In direct current, there is no zero-crossing, so the arc may persist and the device may fail to interrupt the fault.\nOn both the panel side and the battery side, you must always use equipment approved for DC, with the correct operating voltage. It is an inexpensive component where it is not worth trying to save money.\n\nHow to select the correct rating\nThe circuit breaker should be selected to be rated above the maximum operating current and below the current-carrying capacity of the cable it protects.
