A 12 V compressor fridge consumes between 300 and 500 Wh per day, depending on ambient temperature and usage; it cools effectively even when the outside temperature is 40 degrees, and does not need to be levelled.\nAn absorption fridge consumes considerably more power when running on electricity, loses efficiency in the heat and must be levelled. That is why compressor fridges are almost always fitted in modern motorhomes and on boats.\n\nHow much battery capacity is needed\nThis is the calculation that is most often underestimated. A 60-litre compressor fridge consumes around 400 Wh per day in summer, which is about 33 Ah at 12 volts. With a <a href=\"\/en\/product-category\/batteries\/12v-lithium-batteries\/\">100 Ah lithium battery<\/a> You get three days\u2019 use from the fridge and nothing more; if you also use the lights, the water pump and a laptop, the actual running time drops to just over a day.\nThat is precisely why a solar panel is fitted to a campervan: the fridge is the continuous power drain that means you have to recharge the battery every day.\n\nWhich model to choose\nBased on capacity and design: drawer, door or built-in, with or without a separate freezer.
