Using Bluetooth, you can view the output and status on your mobile.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Alternator \u2192 Orion XS booster.<\/strong> The DC-DC converter isolates the engine battery from the auxiliary battery and charges the lithium battery to the correct voltage whilst you are driving. In Euro 6 vehicles with a smart alternator, it is compulsory; without it, the lithium battery will not charge or will charge poorly.<\/li>\n<li><strong>220 V mains supply (campsite\/marina) \u2192 MultiPlus.<\/strong> The inverter\/charger charges the battery when mains power is available and, when you switch it off, powers the sockets from the battery without you noticing the change. The input is protected by a circuit breaker and an earth leakage circuit breaker.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lynx Distributor \/ busbar.<\/strong> It is the heart of the system: all positive leads connect to a busbar with its MEGA fuse, and all negative leads connect to the opposite busbar, passing through the SmartShunt.<\/li>\n<li><strong>SmartShunt \u2192 battery.<\/strong> It measures every ampere that flows in and out and gives you the actual charge percentage, not an estimate based on voltage.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Outings.<\/strong> The 12 V loads (lights, fridge, water pump, USB, heating) are each connected to their own fuse; the 230 V loads (sockets, induction hob, air conditioning) are connected to the MultiPlus.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the wiring diagram that comes pre-wired on the board. All you have to do is connect the remaining parts: the circuit boards, the alternator, the external socket and your electrical loads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How many watts and what sort of battery does a campervan need?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the question you need to answer before buying anything, and the one that\u2019s most often answered incorrectly. The method is simple: add up what you use in a day and multiply that by the number of days you want to go without recharging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>12 V compressor fridge<\/strong>: between 25 and 50 Ah a day, depending on size and outside temperature. This is almost always the largest drain on the battery.<\/li>\n<li><strong>LED lights, water pump, USB charging ports<\/strong>: 5 to 15 Ah per day.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Laptops and working from home<\/strong>: 10 to 25 Ah per day.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Diesel heating<\/strong>: 5 to 15 Ah per night (it uses a lot of power when starting up, but very little afterwards).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Induction hob, coffee maker or microwave<\/strong>: 20 to 60 Ah for each intensive use. This is where a 100 Ah battery falls short.<\/li>\n<li><strong>12 V or 230 V air conditioning<\/strong>: 30 to 60 Ah per hour. This only makes sense with large lithium battery banks and a good solar charge or alternator.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Basic usage (fridge, lights, water, mobile phones and laptop) amounts to around 60\u201390 Ah a day, so a <strong>100 to 200 Ah lithium battery<\/strong> It provides one or two days\u2019 autonomy without sunlight or driving. If you add induction cooking, intensive remote working or air conditioning, the battery bank increases to 300\u2013600 Ah and the system switches to MultiPlus. Compared to a second AGM battery, lithium offers twice the usable capacity at half the weight and supports much faster charging from the booster, which is why it\u2019s the standard in all our dashboards. For basic use with a 100\u2013200 Ah lithium battery, 200\u2013400 W of solar panels will keep the system running; with an induction hob or air conditioning, the alternator and the booster do much of the work. On the dashboard, we\u2019ve already configured the MPPT to match the panels you\u2019re going to install.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How can I get 220 V in my campervan or motorhome?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are two ways, and the board can feature either of them:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Phoenix Inverter (inverter only).<\/strong> It converts the 12 V from the battery into 230 V for your sockets. It\u2019s the simple and economical option when you\u2019re not going to connect to a campsite\u2019s mains supply. Common models: 12\/1200 and 12\/1600.<\/li>\n<li><strong>MultiPlus inverter\/charger.<\/strong> It does the same thing and, what\u2019s more, when you connect the van to the mains supply at the campsite or the port, it charges the battery and automatically switches the sockets to mains power. With a single unit, you have an inverter, a charger and a switch. Common models: 12\/2000 and 12\/3000.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In both cases, the 230 V section of the distribution board is protected by a circuit breaker and a residual current device, with an earth connection provided, exactly as required for a domestic installation. This is what distinguishes a <em>220 V electrical system for a camper van<\/em> a plug hanging from an inverter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What about type approval? Registration certificate, MOT and pre-fitted dashboard<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many searches for <em>non-approved campervan electrical installation<\/em> stem from the same fear: passing the MOT. In Spain, a 12 V installation does not require a certificate, but when the modification includes a <strong>230 V installation<\/strong> (external socket, plugs, inverter), the type-approval process usually requires a certificate for the electrical installation issued by an authorised installer, in addition to the design drawings and the workshop certificate. A pre-assembled switchboard with the correct safety features, correctly sized wiring and a documented wiring diagram makes things much easier for you: everything the technician needs to check has already been done properly. To give you an idea, here are some indicative ranges for Victron equipment and a lithium battery, with the dashboard fitted, configured and documented (excluding power consumption and number plates):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Essential 12 V camper van<\/strong> (Orion XS booster, MPPT, SmartShunt, Phoenix 1200\u20131600, 100\u2013200 Ah lithium battery): from around \u20ac1,800 to \u20ac3,000.<\/li>\n<li><strong>All-electric campervan with MultiPlus<\/strong> (MultiPlus 2000\u20133000, Orion XS, MPPT, SmartShunt, Lynx, lithium 300\u2013600 Ah): from around \u20ac4,500 to \u20ac8,000.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nautica<\/strong> (MultiPlus with port charger, MPPT, Orion, SmartShunt, lithium, marine-grade components): from \u20ac4,000, depending on the battery bank and required protection features.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Take a look at what\u2019s not on the list: hours spent on assembly, hours spent on set-up, documentation, buying the wrong items and trips to the shop.
